In Badalona, receiving a Venus means having done something that leaves a lasting mark. The original small sculpture, which stands less than thirty centimetres tall, embodies both beauty and history: it is more than two thousand years old, dating back to the 1st century AD.
The goddess of beauty, love and fertility witnessed the Romans’ presence in the city of Badalona, then known as Baetulo. Beyond taking a close look at one of the seventeen statuettes that the winners of the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival will hold in their hands, it is well worth visiting the Museu de Badalona. There, you can find the original Venus, carved from Carrara marble, presiding over the museum’s underground archaeological site and forming part of a dreamlike journey through the streets and baths of our ancestors.
