Ninetto Davoli, one of Pier Paolo Pasolini’s favourite actors, will be awarded the Premi Honorífic of FILMETS Badalona Film Festival for his long artistic career

The award “Venus d’Honor” will be given to Ninetto Davoli on Tuesday 22nd of October at 19h.

The 44th edition of FILMETS, to be held between the 19th and 28th of October, will present 210 competing short films in 24 international sessions.

FILMETS is going to dedicate one session to Italian cinema, this year’s guest country, by showing “Pinocchio”, a silent film made in 1911, accompanied by live electronic music, as well as a session of short films directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

The Italian actor Ninetto Davoli, one of director Pier Paolo Pasolini’s favourites, will receive the Premi Honorífic of FILMETS Badalona Film Festival award. The Venus d’Honor award will be given Monday 22nd of October, at 19h, during a special session of Cinema Històric, in which 4 short films directed by Pasolini will be shown. Ninetto Davoli will receive this award for his long artistic career in cinema as well as in television and theatre.

This is considered one of the highlights of the 44th edition of FILMETS Badalona Film Festival that will take place between the 19th and 28th of October, where Italy will be this year’s guest country. This year’s edition will project 210 competing short films within the 24 sessions offered in the Programa Internacional.

FILMETS’ venues this year will be the Teatre Zorrilla, the Teatre Principal, the Teatre Blas Infante, the l’Institut français de Barcelona and the Centre Cultural El Carme.

The 44th edition of Filmets Badalona Film Festival has attended today’s press conference, in the presence of the third deputy major and councilor of  l’Àmbit de Govern i Territori de l’Ajuntament de Badalona, Rubén Guijarro, together with chief executive officer of the Badalona Comunicació, Josep Viñeta Balsells,  and the director of the festival, Agustí Argelich.

Short films by Pasolini and the show ‘Pinocchio elettronico’

Italy is the guest country in this year’s edition of FILMETS. On Sunday 21st at 18h, at the Teatre Zorilla, you can attend the contemporary performance “Pinocchio elettronico”, a production where the silent film from 1911 and electronic music are brought together with 3 musicians playing live. Following there will be the competitive session “Focus Itàlia” paying particular attention to the creativity and talent of the best Italian short films.

The next day, Monday 22nd, Ninetto Davoli will be in Badalona to present the session of ‘Cinema Històric: “Pasolini”, in which 4 short films by the controverted Italian director will be projected, and where Davoli will receive the FILMETS’ price of honour.

Another moment full of symbolism and history will be the ‘Historical Cinema” session: May of the 68’, which will be held on Saturday 20th at 19h as a way to commemorate the 50th anniversary of these historic events that took place in France. Several short films with real images of the Paris uprising will be screened, as well as short fiction films inspired by these events.

‘The awards night: la Nit de les Venus’, Saturday 27th

Finally, Saturday 27th, there will be the awards night “La Nit de les Venus” starting at 22h at the Teatre Zorilla. All the awards of this year’s edition of the FILMETS festival will be handed out and the short film winner of FILMETS Badalona Film Festival 2018 will be screened.

The awards night, broadcasted by Televisió de Badalona and local TV’s part of the Xarxa network, is expected to be a great show, filled with amusement and rhythm.

Francesc Orella and Assumpta Serna will be present at FILMETS

During the festival there will be many actors and directors presenting their short film. Two of them are worth special attention: Francesc Orella and Assumpta Serna.

Francesc Orella will present his short film “Letargo” on Monday 22nd at 16.30h. Next, the actor will assist in a debate as his alter ego, “Merlí” (the philosophy teacher that recently made him very popular on the television screens) together with students from various film schools that will have attended the previous screening.  On Wednesday 24th, at 19h, Assumpta Serna is going to present her short film ‘Donde no puedes llegar’.

‘The Silent Child’, 2018 Oscar winner will open the festival.

The festival’s opening film on Friday 19th, will be “The Silent Child”, Oscar winner for best short fiction film 2018. The closing film on Friday 26th is the American film ‘The lunch ladies’. In both cases representatives from the film crew will join the event.

We should also highlight the professional side of this year’s FILMETS. On Tuesday 23rd, at 10h at the Centre Cultural El Carme,  the FILMETS ‘Pro’ ‘Coproduccions Catalunya-L’Apúlia (Italy) “Oportunitats de Negoci” session will be held, bringing together producers from Italy and Catalonia, and it is expected to reach agreements for future co-productions.

Badalona, capital of short films

The third Deputy Mayor and Councilor for the area of ​​ l’Àmbit de Govern i territori, Rubén Guijarro, has stated in his speech that  “for a few days Badalona will be the European capital of short film, an indispensable annual event for those who love cinema, and not to forget how short films can boost our emotions.

The Managing Director of Badalona Comunicació, Josep Viñeta Balsells, has highlighted the professional side of the festival “because FILMETS will be a meeting point for film producers seeking for agreements, especially with the audiovisual collective of the Italian region Apulia. We want the FILMETS festival to be a reference in the professional world. ”

Ultimately, the director of the FILMETS festival, Agustí Argelich, has wanted to emphasize “the great quality of the short films to be screened, because as the motto of the festival indicates, cinema is never too short, the short films are not second division films.
