The 2020 FILMETS festival culminates this Saturday the 24th of October with the Night of the Venuses awards ceremony to present the prizes to the winning short films. The gala will take place at the Teatre Zorrilla in Badalona, from 9 pm, and will be broadcast live on local television channels in Catalonia. Televisió de Badalona will be in charge of holding the gala and emitting the television signal to broadcast the celebration on La Xarxa (a multimedia platform that provides content and services to media from all over Catalonia). Due to COVID-19 protocols, the Teatre Zorilla’s capacity will be limited to 50%.

This year, the traditional Night of Venuses will be presented by Badalona journalist Lídia Heredia and Queco Novell. The pair will lead a ceremony that combines the themes of the shorts screened at this year’s FILMETS with gags linked to current affairs.

With its motto, ‘We’ll always have FILMETS’, the 46th edition of the festival has screened 297 competing shorts. For the first time in the history of FILMETS, the event has had a hybrid format, offering the public the chance to watch live sessions in Badalona and Barcelona, as well as view all the films from the comfort of their own homes on the festival’s website www.festivalfilmets.cat.

The 297 shorts entered into the 30 International Sessions are competing to take away the following Venus of Badalona awards.

  • Best Film
  • Jury’s Special Prize
  • Audience Award
  • Best Animation Film
  • Best Documentary Film
  • Best Film Produced in Badalona
  • Best Catalan Production
  • Best Spanish Production
  • Best Director
  • Best Actor/Actress
  • Best Original Score

The Night of the Venuses television broadcast will include the screening of the FILMETS festival’s winning short film
