Despite the current uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival is on schedule for its annual October meeting with short film fans. However, there are some significant changes. The 46th edition of FILMETS will take place in a hybrid format. There will be three screening sessions at the Zorrilla Theatre in Badalona and two at the Institut Français in Barcelona. In addition, the theatre screenings will be complemented by the Festhome digital platform, which will show all the short films in the Official Section.

Both the theatre sessions and those on the digital platform will be, as always, free of charge and open to all, but you will need to register in advance.

Register for free at www.festivalfilmets.cat

To comply with the safety protocol established by the health authorities in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, anyone wishing to attend the theatre sessions in Badalona, Barcelona and Sant Boi de Llobregat must register in advance via the website www.festivalfilmets.cat.

Those who prefer to view at home will be able to access all the FILMETS festival sessions through the digital Festhome platform, from midnight on October the 17th until midnight on Friday the 23rd. The platform gives spectators a front-row seat and a la-carte access to the sessions, which can be viewed wherever and whenever is convenient. Viewers can choose between watching the entire festival session in one go or watching a selection of films in one or more sittings. To access the platform you must register for free at www.festivalfilmets.cat.

‘We’ll always have FILMETS’

The 2020 edition of the festival takes place against the backdrop of the coronavirus crisis that’s challenging us all on multiple levels. For this reason, we wanted this year’s slogan to convey self-affirmation and empathy with the public and filmmakers. And so, in a deliberate paraphrase of Rick’s famous words to Ilsa in Casablanca, ‘We’ll always have Paris’, the motto for the 2020 edition of the festival will be ‘We’ll always have FILMETS’. The meaning behind the words is clear; these are challenging times, but at least we can take refuge in the cinema presented by FILMETS.

The session content is still being finalised, but we can already confirm that FILMETS will present an ambitious programme of around 300 short films aimed at all types of audiences.

The Best Film prize has been increased from 2,500 to 5,000 euros

We’re pleased to announce an important change for the 2020 edition of FILMETS. The festival’s star award, Best Film, is doubling its cash prize from 2,500 euros to 5,000 euros.

The increased prize money allocated to this award means that FILMETS is now one of the highest-paying short-film festivals in the whole of Spain.
