The 40th edition of the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival come with an official section with 255 films from 46 countries and more than 4.000 short films registered. The FILMETS festival will be holding from 17th to 26th October of 2014.
The United States of America, guest country
The international official jury of this year consist of Joan Vidal, co-founder of the festival in 1971, Alex Sufit, videoclips and advertising producer (England), Luca dal Molin, director of the cinema festival UNLIMITED Erice (Italy), Esther Casas, animation director of Claymaniak (USA) and Miguel Ángel Buttini, cinema director and producer.
The 40th edition of the FILMETS BADALONA FILM FESTIVAL will be holding from 17th to 26th October of 2014 in the official headquarters of the Teatre Zorrilla, Teatro Principal, the auditorium of the CES Joan Maragall, the Centre de Cultura Tradicional Can Canyadó and the libraries of the city.
The United States of America will be the guest country, the country that has won the Venus to the best film more times in the history of the festival. A selection of short films from the Official Section will be show, among them THIRST, première at the Locarno festival and starring by Melanie Griffith. The session will be Sunday October at 19.00h in the Teatro Zorrilla with the price of 3 euros.
This year the festival also prepars an exposition, EXPO VINTAGE, with free entry, that will take place at the Teatro Zorrilla, with private collections of cameras, projectors and different cinematographic material used in films of the 40 editions of the festival, and some unique pieces of the 35 mm, 16 mm, Super 8, 8 mm and 9,5 formats, and with the section “Toys of cinema”. An approach to the analog cinematographic world, unknown for the new generations, which could discover, in situ, the operation of these mechanical devices.
The FILMETS festival has organized information sessions throughout this year in Cataloni, and retrospective sessions of catalonian short films at the festivals of BISFF from Busan (South Korea), REGARD in Quebec (Canada), UNLIMITED Erice in Sicily (Italy), MÈDIT in Ciutadella de Menorca, the Museu del Cinema in Girona, Cinema Lliure a la Platja de Barcelona, Francophony week of the Institut Francès de Barcelona, EL DIA + CURT, etc…
The members of the organization of FILMETS have recently took part in the jury of the Gaudí Awards, ICEC, the BISFF festival in South Korea, etc., and have participated in speeches and conferences at the festivals of Canes, OFF_COURTS Trouville, TOUS COURTS Aix-en-Provence, BCN Sports Film, ANNECY (France) and CLERMONT-FERRAND International Film Festival (France).
The International Program, central axis of FILMETS, count with projection of 255 short films from 46 participating countries. These films have been select to compete in the Festival of this year amog more than 4.000 enrolled short films, and could be see along the week distribute in 25 different competitive sessions.
This year the festival introduces the latest technology in digital projection from the hand of EPSON, one of the world biggest technology manufacturer. The short films will be show in the best image queality thanks to the extra illuminated projector of EPSON. Also, FILMETS release the Venus award to the best photography, an award delivered by EPSON, where the social networks users could actively participate to choose the winner film.
The drawning of the catalog cover and the official poster of Filmets was made by Jordi Espinar Giménez, Student of 3º of Editorial Design of the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny Pau Gargallo in Badalona. The poster makes reference, as the autor explanis, to the famous picture of the Hollywood mountain, but in this case the city of Badalona relieves as international short fiml capital. The sign is shown at the back, where we could see all the city of Badalona, the short film city, and that project the picture of FILMETS to the world.

Filmets in family: animation short films sessions for the youngest.
Cinema, music and gastronomy: United States of America, guest country: international program session with north american short films in competition. It will be accompanied by music and gastronomy shows.
Manifest: political and claim short films.
Filmets young: international program sessions for elementary and secondary students with more than 6.000 spectators confirmed from diferent schools of the Badalona and Barcelona urban area.
Late night show: the most radical and darest short films.
The sea of Filmets, Cinema from the Mediterranean: session dedicate to the mediterranean countries filmography.
Human Rigths: short films of social type in collaboration with the Federació Catalana d’ONG per la Pau, els Drets Humans i el Desenvolupament.
Historical Cinema: the twelfth edition will be dedicated this year to the filmography of José Prieto García, cinema amateur, that was partner between 1973 i 1974 of the amateur cinema section of the Museu Municipal of Badalona (SCAMM) and also was responsible of the Cinefòrum of the parish centre of Sant Antoni in Llefià.
Badalona film short film: the projection of the short films made by the Badalona people will take place the Saturday 18th October in the Teatro Zorrilla. This year 20 films take part in competition.
Filmets for all: short films for childs and youngs with mental and physical disabilities.
Little Filmets: session that approach the cinema world to the youngest.
Filmets in the libraries: children’s short film session in all the libraries of the city.
Filmets in shape: short film session about the sports world.
Filmets Connec’art: also will be a meeting point for the youngers creators from Badalona, that will take place on Saturday 18th October in the Pompeu Fabra place, and where the audiovisual will be the central axis.
Under the motto of FILMETS INTEGRA, that will bring together the sessions for kids and teenegers, and also will be one session with sign lenguage for the heard impaired.
Friday 24th October in the hall of the Teatre Zorrilla will take place the official presentation of the third edition of the 3D FILM & MUSIC FEST BARCELONA 2014 with the projection in 3D screen of the winners videoclips of the last two editions. The 3D FILM & MUSIC FEST is the only festival in the world specialized in 3D stereoscopic productions with exclusive musical subject. Also, will be the usual meeting between directors, programmers and participants. FREE ENTRY.
ANIMATION AND SHOWS
In this special edition will be participate the musical groups LES POMPIERS PONEY CLUB, street band from Marseilles, the FILMETS BAND, Sònia Moreno, Sin Regomello, Twocats pel Gospel, Minna, Maribel del Pino, Tribu Urbana Center and L’Oca Underground.
MASTERCLASS
With Arturo Balseiro, teacher and professional of the digital sculpture, make-up and the characterization. An international artist with more than 20 years of experience in this profession. Capable of create life with a pencil or in 3D models. His work includes an endless amount of creatures and characters that have participated in the most important productions of the present cinematography, and has been awarded with the Goya to the best visual effects in 2011 for his work in EVA, as well as two Gaudí awards and two nominations more to the Goya. Thursday 23rd October at 17h in the Teatro Principal. FREE ENTRY.
FILMETS Badalona Film Festival will be a meeting point for short film directors and producers for all over the world and will count with the presence of filmmakers and festivals managers of all the world.
The opening day, 17th October, will be an homage to the festival founders, in 1971, as well as to the people that to the current edition had made possible reach this fortieth edition of the festival. In this session will be show a retrospective session with the films awarded with the Venus during the forty years of the festival.
In the list of this year stands out the productions that has been selected or winners in the festivals of Canes, Sundance, Berlin, Venice, Clermont-Ferrand, Hamburg, Tribeca, etc., and also nominated to the Goya Goya, César, Donatello, Bafta and Oscar awards.
It should be pointed out the animation masterpieces of Mr. Hublot, winner of the Oscar in 2014, or Cuerdas, winner of the Goya in 2014 and fiction works starring by actors and actresses like Luis Tosar, Pep Munné, Melanie Griffith, Anna Allen, Danny de Vito, Álvaro Cervantes, María Barranco, etc.

INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM MARKET
During the time frame of FILMETS Badalona Film Festival this year continues the brand of MerCATin, the 4º International Short Film Market. With the collaboration of Microgestio.com (official Apple store of Barcelona), MerCATin will allow to the professionals that attend to the festival, between 20 and 24th October, view the latest catalonian productions and the films of the oficial section of the festival.

All of them have been short filmmakers, and once more the festival bet on the personality of this genre, forgotten by the audiovisual industry of our country, unlike other european countries as France, Belgium or Germany, that set high level short films in their movies theaters.

Closing session (Venus night): Saturday 25th October at 20h in the Teatro Zorrilla (entrance by invitation).
The closing session will be broadcast in live by the Xarxa de Comunicacions Locals.
Prices: the entrance price is 2 euros (day session) to access to the open sessions to public from 19h. A season ticket cost 12 euros and permit the access to all the sessions from 19h during all the festival; the season ticket includes the official catalog. The guest country session (United States of America) cost 3 euros. The rest of the sessions which are open to the public are sponsored and free.
