Isand (The Master) – Riho Unt

The 41st edition of the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival ends with success regarding viewers in the city cinemas and venues. More than 16,500 viewers have enjoyed the best international and Catalan short films in Badalona. La Nit de les Venus (Venus Night), the closing ceremony, has been a night full of awards and surprises.

Espartac Peran, Lidia Heredia and the hostess from Televisió de Badalona, Bàrbara Sedó, have led this year’s NIT DE LES VENUS, which could be followed live via the Xarxa de Comunicació Local in about twenty Catalan local television channels.

The film ISAND (THE MASTER), from Estonia, directed by Riho Unt, has been the winner of the 41st edition. ISAND (THE MASTER) is a short film about how power relationships are built between a dog and a monkey. This short film was presented in the last edition of Annecy Festival, the most important animation festival in Europe.

The Panel’s Special Award has been given to DISCIPLINE, a Swiss short film directed by Christopher M. Saber, about an argument between people from different cultures, started when a father slaps her daughter in a grocery shop.

The Badalona’s Venus and the 750 Euros to the best fiction have been awarded to LISTEN, a co-production from Finland and Denmark, directed by Hamy Ramezan and Rungano Nyoni.

Evelyne El Garby Kai, main actress in the French short film AU SOL, has been given the Best Actress Badalona’s Venus.

Christian Redl and Edin Hasanovic, actors in the German short fil SCHULD UM SCHULD, have been awarded the Best Actor Badalona’s Venus. This year, the specialized panel from Amics del Teatre Zorrilla has decided to give the award to the two starring actors.

ZERO, a Catalan production by David Victori, has received the Venus to Best Spanish Production and Best Original Score.

The Culture Conseller of the Generalitat, Ferran Mascarell, has handed over the Venus to Best European Production to OS MININOS DO RIO.

The Mayor of Badalona, Dolors Sabater, has handed over the Honorific Award to Montserrat Carulla due to the fact that she is a referent in our cinema, theatre and television and she is committed to our society, short films and film festivals in Catalonia.
