In addition to its competitive sessions, the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival also wishes to reach schoolchildren in Badalona and Sant Boi de Llobregat. During the festival, from 18 to 27 October, more than 6,000 children will be participating in film-related events and activities that run parallel to the festival.

FILMETS has invited children from state and grant-maintained private schools in Badalona and Sant Boi de Llobregat to attend the screenings. Between these sessions and those to be held in the libraries of Badalona, more than 6,000 children will see several short films in this edition of the FILMETS festival.

Under the names ‘FILMETS Primary’ and ‘FILMETS Secondary,’ the Blas Infante Theatre, located in the Badalona neighbourhood of Llefià, will be hosting screenings every week day during the festival, from 10 am to 1 pm, for third-year primary (aged 8) and fourth-year secondary school pupils (aged 15). The same will happen at the Can Castellet cinema in Sant Boi de Llobregat on Tuesday 22 at 11 am for primary school pupils and on Wednesday 23 at 11 am for secondary school students.

It is an educational activity that will enable youngsters to come into contact with quality cinema, maybe for the first time in their lives.

Prior to the screening, each school has received a file on the short films to be screened so that students can work in class on the themes addressed.

By limiting the screenings to one primary and one secondary school year each edition, these students can go to FILMETS school screenings twice during their compulsory schooling.

The films to be screened for primary and secondary school children will be different and tailored to the age groups. Although the aim is for the youngest ones to have a good time watching the films, the FILMETS team tries to ensure that the shorts to be screened portray certain values. For the older students, the goal is to provoke reflection on the themes addressed in the short films.

For children who have not yet started primary school, FILMETS has also prepared a series of screenings. These sessions are called ‘FILMETS in the Library,’ and will be held throughout Badalona. For a few days, the traditional ‘Story Time’ will be transformed into film time. These are sessions of children’s short films that offer quality cinema to children accompanied by their families. The participating libraries in Badalona are Can Casacuberta, Lloreda, Pomar, Sant Roc, Llefià-Xavier Soto and Canyadó-Casagemes-Joan Argenté.
