The BAFTA 2021 best fictional short film The Present and best short animation The Owl and the Pussycat were the most eagerly anticipated screenings

The FILMETS Badalona Film Festival has once again served as Catalonia’s gateway to the 2021 BAFTA awards organised by the prestigious British Academy of Film and Television Arts, which were presented on the 11th of April at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Lloyd Milen, the British Consul General in Catalonia, stated that “FILMETS offers a unique opportunity to watch high-quality shorts on the big screen at a cinema”. “Not everywhere has a cinema that offers short film sessions; you have to work hard to find conventional film theatres that offer the format, and FILMETS makes up for that shortage”, added Lloyd Milen.
Thanks to the collaboration with the British Council, FILMETS screened the 7 BAFTA-nominated short films at the Zorrilla Theatre in Badalona. Of particular note was the eagerly anticipated Catalan première of the two winning shorts in the fiction and animation categories:
- The Present, winner of the BAFTA for Best Short Film
- The Owl and the Pussycat, winner of the BAFTA for Best Short Animation.
The other shorts screened were:
- Eyelash
- Lizard
- Lucky Break
- The Fire Next Time
- The Song of a Lost Boy
This is the third year in a row that the British Council and FILMETS have worked together closely to organise the cultural initiative.
