FILMETS 40th edition. More news than ever !!

The fortieth edition of the Filmets Badalona Film Festival, a model of catalonian and international short film, will be holding this year from 17th to 26th October in the Teatro Zorrilla and the Teatro Principal.

This year the guest country will be the Unites States of America, the country that has won the Venus to the best film more times in the history of the festival, with a retrospective session of North American short films in competition in the Cinema, Music and Gastronomy session.

After different information sessions throughout this year in Catalonia and retrospective sessions of catalonian short films in the international festivals of BIFF from Busa, South Korea; REGARD sur le courmétrage, in Quebec; UNLIMITED Erice in Sicily; MÉDIT in Ciutadella de Menorca; Museu del Cinema de Girona; Cinema Lliure a la Platja de Barcelona; Francophony week of the Instituto Francés de Barcelona; EL DIA + CURT, etc., this edition come with more novelties than ever.

The main of them, an exposition, EXPO VINTAGE, that will take place in the Teatro Zorrilla, with private collections of cameras, projectors and different cinematographic material used in filming of several films of the 40 editions of the festival; and some unique pieces of the 35 mm, 16 mm, Super 8, 8 mm and 9,5 mm formats, and one section dedicated to the “toys of cinema”. An approach to the analog cinematographic world unknown for the new generations, which could discover in situ the operation of these mechanical devices.

 

Also will be hold, among others, the FILMETS JOVE sessions for elementary and secondary students, with more than 6.000 spectators confirmed from different schools of Badalona and Barcelona urban area, and the FILMETS EN FAMILIA sessions for the youngest: PETIT FILMETS, for the youngest of de daycare center; FILMETS PER A TOTHOM, sessions for people with disabilities. Under the motto of FILMETS INTEGRA, that will bring together these sessions for kids and teenagers, and also will be one session with sign language for the heard impaired.

Animation workshops, talks about matters in common, human rights sessions, political cinema, late night show, Mediterranean cinema, sports cinema, etc., will complement the 25 sessions of the international program, as well as the sessions in all the libraries of the city of Badalona.

FILMETS CONNEC’ART will be also a meeting point for the youngers creators from Badalona, that will take place the Saturday 18th October in the Pompeu Fabra place, and where the audiovisual will be the central axis.

BADALONA EN CURT, the short films made by the Badalona people, will take place the Saturday 18th October in the Teatro Zorrilla.  This year 20 films will take part in competition.

FILMETS will be, once more, the meeting point of the international short film industry and, in the fourth edition of MERCAT-IN, international short film market, distributors, producers, European TV buyers and festivals producers could view the official section of the festival, with more than 250 films in competition.

FILMETS BADALONA FILM FESTIVAL count this year with the presence of Arturo Balseiro, teacher and professional of the digital sculpture, make-up and the characterization. An international artist with more than 20 years of experience in this profession. His work includes an endless amount of creatures and characters that have participated in the most important productions of the present cinematography, and has been awarded with the Goya to the best visual effects in 2011 for his work in EVA, as well as two Gaudí awards and two nominations more to the Goya.

The twelfth edition of CINE HISTÓRICO will be dedicated to José Prieto García, with two documentaries made in 1955 and 1974 about the living conditions in the Salut i Llefià neighborhoods respectively.

The 17th October, the opening day, will be celebrate an homage to the festival founders, in the 1971, as well as to the people that to the current edition had made possible reach this fortieth edition of the festival.

The international jury consist of Joan Vidal (co-founder of the festival in 1971); Alex Sufit, video clips and advertising director, from England, Luca dal Molin, director of the cinema festival Unlimited of Erica, Italy; Ester Casas, animation director of Claymaniak, from the USA; and Miguel Ángel Buttini, cinema director and producer. All of them have been short filmmakers, and once more the festival bet on the personality of this genre, forgotten by the audiovisual industry of our country, unlike other European countries as  France, Belgium or Germany, that set high-level short films in their movies theaters.

The closing ceremony will be celebrate the 25th  October in the Teatro Zorrilla, and will be the big celebration of cinema and short film, with the attendance distinguished professionals of the sector.

It will be expected a public assistance about 15.000 spectators, with a participation in competition of more than 250 short films from 46 countries, among more than 4.000 registered films from 57 countries.
