“Limbo”, a short film about the generational crisis of the 30s, wins the first edition of FILMETS Lab
“Limbo” is the title of the winning project of the first edition of FILMETS Lab, the new film development laboratory of the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival, aimed at young creators aged between 18 and 30. The short film will tell the story of two women who get on a bus for the last time in their lives.
The winning project will receive mentorship and personalised guidance throughout all stages of production from the companies and organisations participating in this first edition: Grup Mediapro, Telson, Brooder Lab, La Salle Campus Barcelona, Productors Audiovisuals de Catalunya (PAC), Benecé Produccions, Mercat Audiovisual de Catalunya (MAC) and the production company BAS. In addition, FILMETS will offer the project its world premiere as part of the 52nd edition of the festival, in 2026.
The jury highlighted that “Limbo” offers a visceral and artistically mature perspective on the generational crisis of the 30s —feelings of emptiness, lack of opportunities and an asphyxiating routine— using the psychological thriller genre with touches of body horror. The director, Camila Pineda, shows a strong commitment to experimentation, drawing inspiration from bold filmmakers such as Julia Ducournau and Claire Denis.
The jury also noted that Pineda has a solid professional background, with a debut at FILMETS, several international awards, and a first feature selected for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. The project also has the support of an experienced producer, Olga Doganoc, whose credits include award-winning projects at Sundance and the Goya Awards.
“This combination of an artistically ambitious script and a top-tier production team makes the project an ideal candidate for the LAB to structure its co-production and distribution strategically, ensuring its maximum potential at international auteur film festivals,” stated the jury.
The jury of this first edition of FILMETS Lab was composed of Marc Orts, artistic director of the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival and head of the fiction sound department at Telson, the image and sound post-production studio of Grup Mediapro; Sergi Vizcaíno, from Brooder Lab and professor at La Salle Campus Barcelona; Marta Forn, from Productors Audiovisuals de Catalunya (PAC); Xavi Atance, from the production company Benecé; Carles Riobó, coordinator of the MAC; and Valentí Roda, executive producer at BAS.

The 51st edition of the FILMETS Badalona Film Festival runs until 27 October 2025. Ticket reservations and full information about the programme and complementary activities are available on the official festival website: festivalfilmets.cat
