Official Jury 2013

This year our festival’s official jury is composed by Judith Colell, director and vice president of the Spanish Film Academy, who will be in charge of the international official jury, a jury formed by Pedro Neves, a Portugal filmmaker, Oriol Sala-Patau, TVC producer and Gaudí prize-winner 2012, Marina Gatell, actress, and Yooni Yoonsun Choi, from the BISFF festival in Busan, South Korea. Here we offer a brief description of their steps in the audiovisual world.

 

JUDIT COLELLJUDIT COLELL

She was born in Barcelona in 1968. She has a degree in History of Art and Cinema at the University of New York. She has directed the films Nosotras (2001), awarded at Sitges, Lorca and Vitoria among others; 53 días de invierno (2007), present at the Film Festival San Sebastian, Best Actress at the Toulouse Festival and nominated for Barcelona 10 Awards; and Elisa K (2010) winner of the Special Jury Award at San Sebastian, Special Mention of the Jury in Nantes, National Award of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, nominated for five Gaudís and a Goya for best adapted screenplay, among other awards. The films she has directed for television are Positius (2008), Fragments (2003) and Radiacions (2012). She is currently vice president of the Film Academy. She is a professor of Film Direction at the Pompeu Fabra University and at the Ramon Llull University in Barcelona.

 

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMARINA GATELL

An actress with a national and international career, she studied in Nancy Tuñón studio and Institut del Teatre of Barcelona. She began at Teatre Lliure with the show Cantonada Brossa, and is known primarily for her characters in the audiovisual medium. In cinema, we have seen her in films like Pa negre, Dones, Lisístrata, Coco, Little Ashes (United Kingdom), The Ungodly o A Maximum Shame (USA), among other films. On television, we have to remark her starring in comedies such as 7 Vidas, Majoria absoluta, La Lola, Física o Química, Hospital Central, Fragments, La Trinca: biografia no autoritzada, Després de la pluja, Mobbing, Només per tu, Figli Strappati (Italy), Crusaders (USA), Terra baixa, by Isidro Ortiz and Una carta a Eva by Agustí Villaronga. Marina Gatell is a member of the Catalan Film Academy and is currently shooting her first short film as a director.

 

PEDRO NEVESPEDRO NEVES

He is a free-lance journalist since 1999 and he collaborates with the Expresso newspaper. In 2007 he directed his first documentary, A olhar o mar, and he won the Public Award in the Festival of Cinema and Video in Vancouver, Canada. He co-directed a short-film documentary En la barbería, and has directed eight short film documentaries which form the work Pobreza no Porto and the documentaries The Forgotten (awarded in International Festival Extremadoc, in Spain) and Disagreements (presented in Panorama do Documentário Português). In 2008 he founded Red Desert Films and, in 2009, he edited Roots by Carlos Ruiz. In 2011 he directed the short documentary Agua Fría, presented so far in Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Fest (Portugal), DocLisboa (Portugal), in the international competition of Clermont-Ferrand International Film Festival, International Film Festival of Guadalajara (Mexico), Mecal Short Film Fest of Barcelona –Special Mention– (Spain), Regard Sur le Court Métrage (Quebec, Canada), Documenta Madrid –Special Mention of the Jury– (Spain) and Filmets Badalona Film Festival (Spain) –Award to the best European short–, among others.

 

YOONSUNYOONSUN YOONI CHOI

Yoonsun Yooni Choi graduated in Master’s degree in Art and Cultural Management from Universitat Internacional de Catalunya and is currently studying for her thesis, Film Industry, at the University of Barcelona. She works in the cultural sector connecting Korean fine art and cinemas in Spain. She is the responsible person in Spain for CulturePlatform, a Seoul-based company that produces animations, characters and picture books of the animation films Paranoid Kid and Dust Kid, both premiered in Cannes 2009. She collaborated with Filmets Badalona Film Festival 2012 in the programming of the guest country, South Korea. Recently, she has worked at Busan International Short Film Festival programming Prequel of Spain, Best Catalan Short Films, collaborating with several film festivals in Catalonia, and at Jecheon International Music & Film Festival in Korea.

 

ORIOL SALA-PATAUORIOL SALA-PATAU

He is an executive producer and has worked as deputy head of TVC’s department of entertaining, cultural, children’s and youth’s programmes. He has worked as executive producer and delegated producer in TVC’s coproduction area with several feature films, among other titles, Los últimos días (Hermanos Pastor), El Bosc (Òscar Aibar), Mientras duermes (J. Balagueró), D. D. Hollywood (Bigas Luna) or Tadeo Jones and he is executive producer of the animated film Floquet de neu. He has also worked as executive producer on television projects such as Polònia, the New Year’s Eve shows (from 2002 to 2006), La cuina de l’Isma, Sis a traïció or El Club and as a producer of special programs such as Set de Nit, la Marató de TV3 (2000) o Mostra internacional de cinema (1st and 2nd editions, 1994-95). He is the executive producer and production director of the film Ahora no puedo (Ahora Puedo Producciones), 2011 Gaudí winner for Best Short and 31 other awards (FIJR, MECAL, CURTFICCIONS, AGUILAR DEL CAMPOO, FEC, LA FILA, etc.).
