The deadline for short film submissions is May 31/strong>
Badalona, March 4, 2025 | The submission period is now open for short films wishing to compete in the Official Section of the 51st edition of FILMETS Badalona Film Festival, which will take place from October 17 to 26, 2025. Productions of up to 30 minutes in length in the fiction, animation, and documentary genres are eligible. Submissions can be made until May 31 via the Festhome and Movibeta platforms, accessible through the festival’s official website: festivalfilmets.cat.
Official Section Awards
This year, the award for Best European Production is introduced, and the award for Best Sound, granted by the Association of Audiovisual Sound Artists and Professionals (APSA), is consolidated. Participating short films will compete for the Venus of Badalona and the following cash prizes across 15 categories:
- Best Film Award – €4,000
- Audience Award (LA VANGUARDIA) – €1,000
- Emerging Producer Award (PAC) – €2,000
- Best Animated Short Film – €400
- Best Documentary Production – €400
- Best Production from Badalona – €400
- Best Production from Catalonia – €400
- Best Production from Spain – €400
- Best Production from Europe – €400
- Best Direction Award – €400
- Best Screenplay Award – €400
- Best Sound Award (APSA) – €400
- Best Actress Award – €400
- Best Actor Award – €400
- Best Original Music Award – €400
FILMETS: A Benchmark Festival
In the 2024 edition, more than 4,000 short films were submitted, of which 212 were selected for the Official Section. Films from around the world competed, including some that had been shortlisted for the Goya, BAFTA, and Oscar awards. The selection included 66 debut films, 62 international premieres, and 65 Catalan productions (22 of them produced in Badalona). Notably, 69% of the short films screened in the last edition were directed or produced by women, a record-breaking figure in the history of this internationally recognized festival and official qualifier for the Goya Awards.
